Eyewitness is a retrospective photo book of Manoocher Deghati's life work including his biography in the form of an historical novel by Ursula Janssen.

Manoocher Deghati is an award-winning photojournalist who has been photographing conflicts, social issues, everyday events and human stories around the globe. Beginning with the Iranian revolution of 1979 and subsequent war between Iran and Iraq Manoocher has focused his humanistic lens on major historical events. Exiled from Iran in 1985, Manoocher worked for a number of agencies (Sipa, Black Star, AFP) and the United Nations and served as the director of photography for the Associated Press (AP) in the Middle East. His work has appeared in dozens of major publications including: National Geographic, TIME, Life, Newsweek, and GEO. In 2002 he founded the AINA Photojournalism Institute, in Kabul, Afghanistan, to train photojournalists and support the development of photojournalism in the Middle East.

Manoocher’s extraordinary professional archive spans decades and more than a dozen countries. His biography depicts his extraordinary experience: remarkable encounters, incredible coincidences and anecdotes that are more fantastical than many fictional stories. It’s the story of an indestructible zest for life that exposes the nature of oppression and celebrates the relentless pursuit of freedom.

Manoocher Deghati: Eyewitness is edited by Sarah Leen and designed by Joao Linneu. The book will contain approximately 80 to 100 images from Manoocher’s extraordinary archive and his biography in the form of an historical novel. The book will be bi-lingual in French and English.
