NAZIK ARMENAKYAN

Nazik Armenakyan documents young men and women of Armenia’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community, focusing on transgendered sex workers. Many of the people she photographs are young adults disowned by their families, forced to move to the capital city where they attempt to maintain their lives and forge new relationships.

In 2011, she received a fellowship to attend the Magnum Foundation Photography and Human Rights Program at New York University. In the same year, she received a Production Grant from the Open Society Foundations Documentary Photography Project. Nazik is one of the founders of the 4 Plus Documentary Photography Center, which aims to develop Armenian documentary photography in Armenia.

FotoEvidence's mission is to publish visual stories that inspire people to take action for human rights, and ecological and social justice, and to support the photographers who produce these stories.

Pictures alone cannot change the world, but visual stories can highlight issues, provide access and intimacy, elicit empathy, and inspire responses. The goal of FotoEvidence is to publish enduring evidence of iniustice to raise awareness and inspire action.

The FotoEvidence Association is located in France, 1 Rue du Merlan, Marseillan, 34340 (SIREN: 910871714).
