The Urban Cave is a story about the resilience and humanity of people who live unsheltered on the other side of conventional society. It is about a group of individuals and the full spectrum of their lives, rather than just their deprivations. The images are in response to the beauty of a place, a people, and the dignity, determination, and perseverance reflected in their culture. The train tunnel has been evacuated, the Batcave has been sealed off and the people dispersed but The Urban Cave book preserves the story of these displaced people, the unusual beauty of the home they made and the strength and determination with which they lived. The book contains an introduction by Alison Morley, Chair of Documentary Photography and Photojournalism at ICP, who also serves as the book's photo editor.
